Vanished are the days when you had to wait long hours for a hindered flight or even pay huge termination charges.
Here are things to know about the draft air passengers’ grant:
1. If your flight gets delayed by two to six hours, the airline will have to offer you refreshments and free meals. Though, this will only apply to flyers who wait at the airport.
2. The grant also proposes that passengers would be compensated Rs. 20,000 on missing connecting flights if the delay is over 12 hours, and Rs. 10,000 if the delay is between 4-12 hours.
3. If the passenger is informed about the termination of flight less than two weeks before and up to 24 hours of the scheduled departure time, the airline must offer an alternative flight allowing the passenger to depart within two hours of the booked scheduled departure time or refund the ticket, as acceptable to the passenger.
4. In case of refutation of boarding, airlines are liable to pay a minimum compensation of Rs. 5,000 or more, according to the proposed charter.
5. To make the airlines disabled-friendly, the grant proposes that airlines should have seats – which are available for persons with infirmities – blocked, along with facility for satisfactory leg space, free of charge.
6. Passengers can now make alterations to their name without any charge within 24 hours of the booking.
7. Earlier, a correction in the name rendered the ticket cancelled.
8. In case a flight gets overfilled, the airline will have to arrange for a substitute flight for the passengers within an hour of the original flight. If they fail to put up the passengers on a substitute flight, the passengers can claim reparation up to 400 percent of the booking price.
9. If the airlines misplace or damage your baggage, they will have to pay you a recompense up to ₹350 per kg, or up to ₹20,000. This is 75% more than the earlier reparation.
The new grant absolutely addresses a number of afflictions that passengers earlier faced.
