Experiencing motherhood can be a magical experience for new moms. However, it’s only a dream to think that our responsibilities end after the careful 9 months. From taking care of your newborn to handling your postpartum baby blues, weight loss may be the last of our worries on the list. For the same, The Tribe brings you the good news to turn this wish into a reality, albeit small baby steps (no pun intended!). Here’s the tips from The Tribe’s founders to keep the baby weight off:
Ease into it Slow
Individuals who were fitness enthusiasts and disciplined in theri workout routines before pregnancy may feel the need (and the zeal) to go all out once you’re ready to hit the gym. However, trainer and founder Robin Behl advises to steer clear from it, “Start with slow and controlled movements. Your body has been sedentary for the past nine months, not to mention that it has taken a toll. Focus on polishing joints and rehabilitation movements, without putting too much pressure on the spine.”
Beginning with the basics (stretching and a bit of yoga) can bring back the flexibility required to carry weights and practice more strenuous exercise routines such as HIIT and kickboxing. Slow pilates is also a great option to choose when starting off after a break period. Little knowledge can be dangerous, and thus it is best to seek professional guidance while hitting the gym after a pregnancy.
Own the Cellulite!
A major concern of new moms is the unwanted cellulite and stretch marks that are inevitable during childbirth, yet Behl thinks of it in an optimistic sense, calling it a battlescar, and changing the narrative to ‘owning it and flaunting it’. Cellulite does not represent your inner strength and the mental ability to be disciplined for fitness. Thus, it should act as a marker for the milestones of your life instead, and not hold you down. If you wish to treat it still, Behl advises to consult your doctor, instead of experimenting with it in ways that can get risky.
