The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Indian women’s cricket team has qualified for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021, played in New Zealand.
Along with India, the Black Caps will host the teams of Australia, England and South Africa. Including New Zealand, only these five teams have sealed a direct berth for the 50 over World Cup. The prestigious tournament will be played from 6 February 2021 to 7 March 2021.
ICC took this decision after the council’s Technical Committee decided that the teams will share points from series in the ICC Women’s Championship that did not take place. Led by Mithali Raj, the Indian women’s team played their last ODI series in November 2019 against West Indies.
For the qualification in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021, the Indian side is fourth spot with 23 points. Also, the qualifiers of the World Cup is scheduled to be played from 3 July to 19 July 2020 in Sri Lanka, this is subject to review due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
