Indian female umpires, Janani Narayanan and Vrinda Rathi are making India proud. These two are named in the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires. With the latest inclusion, India now have three female match officials on the ICC Panel with GS Lakshmi on the International Panel of Match Referees.
The ICC development panel is a selection of the best match officials from different regions that help in the conduct of international matches. Their performances are monitored and they move upwards in the international and elite panels with good officiating in ICC events like the U19 World Cup and Women’s T20 World Cups.
Since 2018, Janani Narayanan has been umpiring in Indian domestic tournaments. A lifelong fan of cricket, she looks upto England’s late David Shepherd and retired Indian umpire Srinivas Venkatraghavan. Thanking the panel umpires and referees, she hopes to officiate to the best of her ability.
On the other hand, a former cricketer and also a scorer, Vrinda Rathi has donned different hats and is now looking forward to the new opportunities coming her way. Feeling grateful about this achievement, she cannot wait to explore and see the way things will unfold for her in the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires.
