Who doesn’t get happy with cheese and maybe that’s the reason we quote it while capturing our favourite moments!
But do you know how many varieties this accidental luxury food has?
There are 246 varieties of cheese in the world and to your surprise, France prepares all of them.
And just to understand this delightful food item better, let’s take a look at few cheese variants which you might have come across:
1.Cheddar Cheese:
Cheddar got its name from the English village of the same name and has a sharp, pungent taste. This slightly orange coloured cheese is most commonly used with burgers and gives a nutty taste to your palate. The cheesemakers usually ripe the cheddar cheese in caves (yup, caves, it’s not a typography error) and sometimes also hang it around fireplaces to get a smokey taste.
2.Mascarpone:
Mascarpone cheese looks like whipped cream but has a light pungent taste that works great with cupcakes or any otherdesserts. Mascarpone can be easily prepared at home as all it needs is heavy cream. Once the heavy cream is curdled and drained, you can store it in the refrigerator and use it for adding extra flavour to your sweet dish after a good whipping.
3.Blue Cheese:
Blue cheese looks like a piece of art with various hues of blue and grey colours spread on an ivory coloured block. An accidentally created cheese, blue cheese’s taste is considered to be on a very sharp edge. It has a very distinctive smell and goes really well with pizzas. On top of that, blue cheese also has various varieties like Gorgonzola, Stilton, Roquefort and more and are categorised based on the method of preparation.
4.Emmental Cheese:
If you ever wondered why the cheese you are eating doesn’t look like the cheese blocks shown in your favourite cartoon ‘Tom and Jerry’ then let us tell you, that your two favourite characters had a very fine taste and preferred Swiss delicacies. Emmental or swiss cheese is savoury with very mild flavours. Cultured with three types of bacteria, Emmental over the course of time develops holes which makes it more aesthetically appealing. It has a very silky texture and is widely used in fondues.
