Now to keep it up and follow it even when everything is open, we need to learn how to stock up food and add more to our savings.
Here are few home preservative methods which will make you keep your food items fresh for a long time.
Take a look:
1. Freeze:
Frozen fruits and veggies are common sights in grocery stores. Well, you can try preserving fresh fruits and vegetables at home using freezing techniques. Wash the green vegetables and fruits, vacuum seal them and refrigerate it. You can also blanch the veggies then freeze and store for a better result.
2. Dehydrate:
Whenever food items go bad, it’s because of the moisture. Dehydrate and dry the fruits and veggies. Try a sun-drying or oven roasting method to remove the water content and store them in a vacuum jar. Next time before using the dried out veggies or fruits, soak them in water and enjoy cooking.
3. Pickling:
Pickling is an old age technique to preserve edible items. Microbes cannot survive in highly acidic or alkaline water. Store fresh cut veggies in vinegar or saltwater to increase their shelf life. The only drawback is, it changes the flavour of the food items so try this method only if you are up with some experimenting.
4. Canning:
Try the canning method to preserve highly acidic food items like jams, jellies, tomatoes and more. In this method, you have to heat food under pressure for a while in a glass jar. Boil water in a big utensil and put a stand inside it. Now, fill the jar with jam or sauce, put the lid on it and keep it on the stand, so that jar does not touch the bottom of the utensil. Cover the utensil and leave it for 5-10 minutes. Take it out and let it cool down. Your food is safe now.
