A strong earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Mizoram in the early hours of Monday. It has caused damage to houses and cracks on highway roads at several places. Good news, no casualties have been reported as of yet.
At 4:10am, the earthquake hit the epicenter, Zokhawthar in Champhai district on the India-Myanmar border. The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including state capital Aizawl. Several houses, buildings and a church at Zokhawthar have been partly damaged due to the earthquake with the depth being 20kms.
Expressing concern over Mizoram’s situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and assured all possible help to the state. Here:
