Coronavirus has stopped the daily pace of life and specifically hard hit the migrant workers of our country. With unemployment peeking everyday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’ on 20 June to boost livelihood opportunities in rural India.
This massive rural public works initiative by the center will empower and provide livelihood opportunities to the returnee migrant workers and rural citizens. The ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’ is for 125 days across six states with a resource envelope of Rs 50,000 crore.
PM Modi will start this campaign on 20 June at 11am via video conference with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of the states, launching first in Bihar. Later on, ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’ will move to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha.
From creating infrastructure in India’s rural regions to focusing on implementation of 25 different types of works to provide jobs, ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’ will protect the impact of the nationwide lockdown. This initiative is a coordinated effort between 12 ministries and departments of the government.
