Sania Mirza has become the first Indian tennis player to be nominated for the Fed Cup Heart Awards under the Asia and Oceania zone along with Indonesia’s Priska Medelyn Nugrorho.
Making a comeback to Fed Cup after four years, Sania Mirza helped India qualify for the Play-offs for the first time while her 18 months son Izhaan was her biggest cheerleader and present in the stands. Stepping into the court in 2003, the eighteen year long journey of the tennis star is nothing short of spectacular.
Being India’s pride in the sports, Sania has won six Grand Slam Titles including Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open and French Open. Starting out as a women’s singles player, now she plays in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles category.
Calling the Fed Cup result as one of the greatest achievements of her playing career, Sania is grateful for this recognition. Posting about this news on her Instagram, she wrote, “Honored to be the first person from the subcontinent that has been nominated for the @fedcuptennis Heart Award ❤”.
