March, New Delhi: The Stainless Gallery, New Delhi, will present Before The Silence, a solo exhibition by Dr. Bharat Thakur, opening with a preview on April 11, 2026, followed by public viewing from April 12 to April 20, 2026. The exhibition brings together a collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture design, drawn from four series developed over the past five years. These works are part of a larger, evolving practice shaped by more than five decades of lived experience, observation and inner discipline.
Dr. Bharat Thakur, known for founding Artistic Yoga, approaches art as an extension of his internal process rather than a separate creative pursuit. His early years in the Himalayan region, particularly in Gangotri under the guidance of his mentor Shri Sukhdev Brahmachari ji, continue to inform the way his work takes form. The rhythms of nature, the passage of time and the experience of stillness remain central to his visual language.
Speaking about his process, Dr. Bharat Thakur says,“Art is not something I set out to create. It emerges as a result of a certain state of clarity. When that happens, form follows on its own.” Reflecting on the exhibition, he notes, “Silence is not empty. It is a state where everything becomes more defined. These works come from just before that point.”
The works presented in Before The Silence are not conceived as isolated pieces but as fragments of an ongoing continuum. Art specialist Yamini Telkar, in her essay for the exhibition, describes them as “a continuous record of an interior life,” bringing together multiple layers of experience into a single act of viewing.
At a time when contemporary life is increasingly shaped by speed and external stimuli, this body of work turns attention inward. The exhibition invites viewers to engage with the works at their own pace, allowing meaning to emerge through observation rather than direction.
Dr. Bharat Thakur’s practice occupies a distinct space within the contemporary art landscape. Without aligning to a singular school or style, his work draws from his background in yoga, philosophy and embodied practice. This intersection allows him to translate internal states into visual form, positioning art not just as an outcome but as part of an ongoing process of awareness.
Before The Silence marks his seventh solo exhibition, following his previous show A-Thousand-Cuts-And-An-Arch presented in Dubai in 2020. The current exhibition offers a closer look at the direction his work has taken in recent years, while remaining rooted in a practice that continues to evolve over time.
