Congress veteran leader Ahmed Patel took his last breath early this morning at a hospital in Gurugram.
Tested positive for COVID-19, Mr Patel was undergoing treatment as he descended into critical condition. Suffering multiple organ failure, the Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat at the age of 71 bid adieu to the world which was confirmed by his son, Faisal Patel, at 3.30 in the morning via a tweet.

Known to play a pivotal role in the Indian politics, Ahmed Patel had served as the parliamentary secretary to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1985 and was considered a powerful senior Congressman.
On his demise, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to his family and shared a tweet commemorating his role in public life.

Calling him the “pillar of the Congress party”, former President of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi also took to his Twitter account to express his grief by writing, “He lived and breathed Congress and stood with the party through its most difficult times. He was a tremendous asset.
We will miss him. My love and condolences to Faisal, Mumtaz & the family.”

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also expressed her grief and stated: “I have lost an irreplaceable comrade, a faithful colleague and a friend. I mourn his passing and I feel deeply for his bereaved family to whom I offer my sincere feelings of empathy and support.”
