Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus have shocked fans by showing the wreckage of their home after it was burned down by the Woolsey fire. The past several days have led to devastating losses for many who live in the Malibu area of California due to the wildfires that spread throughout the weekend. Property and houses have been destroyed by the flames, leaving virtually nothing behind but ashes. Just about every celebrity living near Hollywood has had to evacuate. Some have even lost their home.
California’s wildfires have affected tens of thousands of people, with as many as 250,000 people being evacuated from their homes. The Woolsey Fire, which started last Thursday, is still one of the worst wildfires in Los Angeles County’s history. Some historic Hollywood sites, including the set of M*A*S*H, were also destroyed in the fires. The devastation has obviously affected so many other residents in California as well. Tragically, as a result of the fires, which remain an issue for the state, the death toll has reached 55 (approx) with many more undoubtedly losing their personal possessions and homes.
Heartbroken Hemsworth shared a photo of what was left of their house on Tuesday, and it looks like most of their home has been reduced to rubble. Luckily, Cyrus, Hemsworth and the animals they share are all safe, but it doesn’t make the unfortunate event any easier for the couple or other members of the community. The Avengers star shared a picture of before and after the fire and it makes us feel sad. But even as he announced that his home was gone, Hemsworth also shared information about The Malibu Foundation so that his fans could help others affected by the fires.
The 28-year-old captioned the photo, ‘I spent the day in Malibu yesterday and it was amazing to see the community pulling together to help each other out in any way they can. Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger. Thankful for the all the great local guys that helped keep smaller fires out around my property. I love u guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California. It’s going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all. To help/donate visit @malibufoundation and @happyhippiefdn’
While the couple is sad about the loss, they do realize what’s important in life…that they’re safe, their animals are safe, and they recognize how amazing it is to see the city of Malibu come together and support each other. They even announced that they are donating $500,000 to The Malibu Foundation, through Cyrus’ The Happy Hippie Foundation.
Miley offered up many different resources that her followers could get involved in if they want to help. She asked people to come together to show support via donating money and time in her tweets and posts.
Other celebrities to share their own experiences on social media include singer Robin Thicke and girlfriend April Love Geary, Actor Victor Burke and Gerard Butler, who each lost their own homes in the fire and have returned in a bid to help with the recovery efforts.
Gerard Butler took to Instagram on Sunday to share a photo of the burnt down remains of his home, though he was grateful for all of the heroic work the firefighters are doing to help stop the fire in its tracks before this can happen to countless others. ‘Returned to my house in Malibu after evacuating. Heartbreaking time across California,’ Gerard wrote. ‘Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters.’
