Finally!
WhatsApp has rolled out the highly anticipated feature, ‘Dark Mode’, making it available on Android and iOS based smartphones.
Offering a fresh look to the familiar experience, ‘Dark Mode’ is designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments. Also, this feature will prevent those awkward moments where one’s phone lights up the room. While designing ‘Dark Mode’, WhatsApp people spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two particular areas, Readability and Information Hierarchy.
For readability, WhatsApp wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colours that are closer to the system defaults. In Information Hierarchy, they kept in mind that users should be able to easily focus their attention on each screen. By using ‘Dark Mode’, only the important information will stand out, thanks to WhatsApp’s design elements.
People who use Android 10 and iOS 13 can enable dark mode on their devices by enabling the feature in their phone’s settings. And for the users who are on Android 9 and below, they need to open WhatsApp and then click on Settings > Chats > Theme and select ‘Dark’.
The Facebook-owned messaging app will roll out ‘Dark Mode’ in the coming days on the latest version of WhatsApp. Enjoy the ‘Dark Mode’ days from now onwards!
