The rains have always been romanticised by writers, artists and movie makers. For instance, the word ‘petrichor’ was coined by scientists to name the pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after summer. But this word finds a prominent presence in romantic novels than scientific records. Yet Bollywood movies have overexploited this fact; dancing in rain is not romantic, it is dangerous and unhealthy. Here are some ways you can experience the true spirit of this season.
Enjoy with all senses
The rain offers a mesmerising sensorial delight, that too for free, unlike Netflix. Watch the drops hits the ground, the puddles, the leaves, and the pattern the water drops left on the windows. Listen to the sound of rain, one of the most relaxing natural white noise and let it calm and relax your senses. Feel the coolness of the misty air filled with tiny water droplets as they touch your skin.
Capture the moments
Make sure you have a water-resistant DSLR device before you start. And cover the camera with a camera-and-lens rain cover for additional protection. Lower the shutter speed to capture the droplets and remember to focus towards the light source, though not directly facing it to make each droplet standout. You can make use of the reflections on the wet roads and footpaths.
Take a hot shower
A hot shower makes you feel good especially when the weather is cold outside. The monsoon season causes a lot of toxins to accumulate in the body. A hot shower would be a good option to clear the toxins in the skin and unclog the pores. Follow with a cold shower to close the pores then. A hot shower is a good sedative, it helps relaxes the nerves and prepares you for the best thing to do during the rains – sleep!
