One of the most prestigious tournaments of tennis, ATP Cup is going on. A team based tournament where each country has a group of players who represent them. Currently, three teams have qualified for the semi-finals.
World number one, Rafael Nadal suffered a huge slump in the quarter finals after crashing down in straight sets against Belgium’s David Goffin. He was expected to win the match and secure Spain a berth in the semi-finals but now that looks a little too far for them.
Coming to the three teams, Serbia, Australia and Russia, who have secured their place in the semis.
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic beat Shapovalov and gave his team a 2-0 lead in the tie after Dusan Lajovic beat Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Also, Serbian pair Viktor Troicki and Nikola Cacic smashed the Canadian’s Peter Polansky and Adil Shamasdin in the doubles match to secure a clean sweep and slide through to the semis.
Britain’s Dan Evans won the match of his life, beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur but it was not enough for them to qualify. All his efforts went in vain as his team was eventually defeated by Australia.
In another match, Daniil Medvedev put his best efforts to make Russia win and after too many errors, he was successful. The entire team credited him for his unmatched energy and shots.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal was awarded with the ‘Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award’ in an on court ceremony in Perth, Australia. He was honoured with this award after he helped Group Spain make its way to the remaining Eight of the on-going ATP Cup.
