While we are very excited for the Holi madness to begin, our skin is already terrified because of all the harmful chemicals and torture it has to go through. Though you have kept your cleansers, moisturizers and scrubs handy to get rid of the colors from your skin sometimes, which is not JUST enough. Your skin deserves much more as it is already exposed to chemicals and using products containing artificial fragrances and colors, petroleum, SLS/SLES, silicones and parabens cause more drying, roughness and irritation.
Excessive scrubbing is not the answer, so here are some of the natural remedies your grandmother will swear by to make your skin bounce back to glory and to keep the post-Holi skin problems at bay.
1. Haldi+ Besan+ Raw Milk pack
Take a bowl and mix some gram flour (besan), a pinch of turmeric powder and make a thick paste using raw milk. Apply this pack on your skin for 15-20 minutes and wash it with lukewarm water while you gently scrub it.
2. Aloe Vera
They don’t call Aloe Vera the skin’s best friend for nothing. Especially for the sensitive skins, the soothing and nourishing properties do wonder, use fresh gel to slather on your skin and wash off after 15 minutes.
3. Oil massage
The harsh chemicals rip of the moisture from the skin, thus oil massages for few days post Holi will give a healthy texture to the skin and will gradually remove the colors. Use oils like coconut oil, olive oil or even baby oil.
4. Papaya
It is natural that your skin must have acquired a new tan from swaying under the sun soaked in the Holi colors. Mash some ripe papaya and put on your face and body. Wash once it is dry after 15 minutes and bid goodbye to tan and chemicals.
5. Cucumber+ Rose water
The colors and chemicals will fade away, but what about the shine and health of your skin? Make a smooth concoction with cucumber juice, glycerine and rose water and apply on skin after refrigerating for glowing, rejuvenated skin.
