Today morning, the US States Capitol in Washington DC had to be locked down after Trump’s supporters broke down barricades outside the building and swarmed inside. The violent attack was an attempt to overturn the American Presidential election and undercut the nation’s democracy.
Trying to stop President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President elect Kamala Harris from entering the White House and replacing Donald Trump, at the time of this incident, lawmakers were counting Electoral College votes to certify the election victory of Biden-Harris.
Amid the chaotic situation in and around the US States Capitol, an American woman was shot dead as protestors broke windows, climbed on rafters, ripped down the USA flag and roamed the Senate chamber. The police deployed tear gas to empty the US States Capitol.
World leaders condemned the violence induced incident on Twitter, expressing shock at the chaos unfolding in the State. Along with them, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted about this distressing situation.
Have a look:
Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests.
