Halloween is coming! Well we know now we are too old to go for Trick-or-Treating with spook-tacular bags, play silly candy pranks and paint the pumpkins, but that does not mean you go to the bathroom with your skeleton costume and cry quietly thinking that the only fun part of Halloween left is getting dressed up and attending boring parties.
Halloween is the time for originality and imagination, creativity and fantasy, it is the time to let loose and have fun, yeah even if you are an adult. So don’t let this opportunity slip away, and turn the drinks-and-talks party into thrills, chills and squeals by including spooky-fun games to your party. Given the festiveness and mischievousness of Halloween, boys and ghouls the Halloween-obsessed kid in you wants you to take the party to the next level.
1. Trick-or-Treat
Give a makeover to this nostalgic childhood ritual, set up bowls/trays of miniature beverage bottles, Jell-O shots or glasses. Guests can pick one item from each of the different bowls/trays to enjoy, but they won’t know until they taste it whether it’s a trick (fruit juice) or a treat (alcohol).
2. Scary photo booth
It is not a game per se, but photo booths are always a lot of fun. Set up a themed Halloween photo booth—think moody lighting, spider webs, and creepy props—and have your guests come and pose in their costumes for a Polaroid camera and have an instant memento.
3. Magic potions
Pass around trays of ‘magic potions’ (this can be an assortment of shots, cocktails, and mocktails) and attach a tag to each potion. After drinking each potion, your guests have to do what the tag says. You can include things like questions, for example, tell your worst fear/best Halloween memory or even dares.
4. Shot In the dark
Find a classic Halloween movie and pick a phrase, an object, or an action. Each time that phrase is uttered or the object or action appears on the screen or heavy breathing, screaming or blood, the guests need to do a shot or take a sip. (Prescreen the movie to make sure there is enough of each thing to get the party rolling.)
5. Mummy Wrap
Get your toilet paper ready for this one, and break your guests into teams, with each team selecting one player as their mummy who they need to wind with the toilet paper around their body in an attempt to completely cover the mummy. The first team with no mummy body showing is the winner. Sounds simple, but the results are always hilarious, as are the resulting photos.
6. Horror movie and TV Trivia
Scary movie buffs love getting the chance to show off their extensive knowledge of related facts. Need help thinking of a few great questions? There are lots of free horror movie trivia games online and some are even printable. Grab a game and start the trivia.
7. Bobbing for apples
You can spice things up a bit with the old bobbing game of filling up a tub with water and apples which need to be caught between the teeth. For a more adult version of the game, you can soak apple halves in alcohol before putting them in the bucket, or you can substitute your water for an alcoholic punch or red wine sangria (for a good memorable stain).
8. Who will survive?
This is a game of strategic thinking, logic, and figuring out how not to end up dead at the end of a hypothetical horror flick. On the internet, there are PDFs with rules and questions that can determine who in your friend group would survive in a horror movie set. This game will incite debate and once and for all determine who the final friend of the group would be.
