Designers Shyamal and Bhumika presented Kiara Advani in their Muse of Mirrors collection at the India Couture Week 2018. Muse of Mirrors is a collection featuring the designer duo’s signature avant-garde and exquisite embroideries and details, unveiled at India Couture Week 2018 on Saturday, 28th July.
Kiara Advani who made her debut on couture runway as a muse for the designers said, “This is my first ever appearance on the couture runway and I couldn’t have imagined anybody better than Shyamal & Bhumika to make this debut with! I resonate with their utopian vision and the way their clothes embody the modern Indian woman.”
Eco-friendly matka silks, raw silks, fine crepes, and georgettes; with diaphanous tulle and organza, fragile embroidery in age-old techniques of aari, zardozi and pitta in a mélange of unique vintage colors of English rose pink, ochre, moon grey, dusty mint, muted ivory, champagne complimented with vivid shades of midnight blue, emerald green and crimson reds created romance and regality.
Rahul Mishra unveiled his menswear collection embellished with delicate hand-embroidery fused with handwoven fabrics to create an eclectic mix of beautifully handcrafted kurtas, bandhgalas & silhouettes inspired from traditional Indian ensembles in addition to the lehengas and kalidars of his womenswear range.
The collection also has unique Swarovski lacquer crystals interpreted as morning dew drops. The ethereal collection was named Maraasim which signifies relationships in Urdu, and it revived ancient visual expressions and explores new forms, with the ingenious use of geometry and arabesque to achieve patterns of intricate complexity. Intricate vegetal motifs, with chevrons and spandrels from the rich decorative vocabularies of an earlier era, come alive to make the meticulous surface treatment appear surreal.
“The Mughal aesthetic was not the invention of any single artist, nor of any particular group of artists; rather it was a blend of artistic practices of Persia, European influences of passing traders and missionaries, and the rich indigenous traditions of India. Nothing can be created in isolation, it was the cross-pollination of ideas that resulted in an entirely unique and unified aesthetic that were all expressions of a genuine delight in the creation of beauty” explains Mishra.
