1. Pay It Forward (2000)
Every time you do a favour on someone, ask them not to pay you back, instead tell them to pay it forward to three other people who, in turn, each pay it forward to three more. This cycle goes on and turns into a global outpouring of kindness. This seems like a small thing but makes a big difference in the life of an unknown. Based on a book with the same name, this movie is based on this concept, called ‘Pay it Forward’. The film revolves around a young boy who starts this task and accomplishes it by sparking a huge following as kindness is shown to many. Starring Academy Award winners Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt along with Academy Award nominee Haley Joel Osment, ‘Pay it Forward’ is a must watch with some great lessons to learn.
2. I am Sam (2001)
Get your tissues ready because you will definitely need it while watching ‘I am Sam’. A tear shedding movie with a special message, this movie hits the heart. A story about a mentally challenged man, played by Sean Penn, who fights for custody of his daughter, played by Dakota Fanning. The lawsuit procedure will move the waterworks in your eyes. ‘I am Sam’ shows the struggles of a father who makes his daughter the highest priority. A portrait of love, compassion and kindness, this movie will move you.
3. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (2005)
One of the best family movies, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ is an adaptation of C.S. Lewis book, with the same name. The movie is a magical journey of four children who embark on a quest and on the way experience acts of kindness from various characters in the world of Narnia.
The movie has a star studded cast, featuring William Moseley, Noah Huntley, Anna Poopplewell, Sophie Winkleman, Skandar Keynes, Mark Wells, Georgie Henley and Rachael Henley. Watch it to move into a wonderland and witness kindness!
4. Life of Pi (2012)
Once again based on a novel, ‘Life of Pi’ shows how the titular character gets stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean along with a ferocious tiger. Kindness sets in when Pi sacrifices his food for the tiger, who tried to kill a few times. At last, his kindness pays off as the tiger survives the entire ordeal.
Starring Suraj Sharma as Pi, the movie won an Academy Award for ‘Best Original Music Score’. With amazing visual effects, this movie is a masterpiece.
5. 12 Years A Slave (2013)
Showing the hidden face of slavery in America, ‘12 Years A Slave’ shows how a free man is thrown into slavery for 12 years. Enduring the brutal and inhumane acts done to him, we see the kind nature of him. One gets to see how few slave masters also show small acts of kindness to their entrusted slaves.
Winning Academy award for ‘Best Picture’, ‘12 Years A Slave’ stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch in the leads. This movie is nothing short of extraordinary!
