Not too long ago, poised and self-assured Bollywood star Anushka Sharma was in the news for videotaping and trolling a high-profile litterbug for his insensitive act on social media. While some hailed the environment conscious actor’s move, others thought she had taken her social policing a bit too far. However, the news about Anushka Sharma that is making a splash of late is going to be universally appreciated, for sure.
She will be sharing coveted space with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lewis Hamilton by becoming one of the celebrities to have an interactive wax statue at the prestigious Madame Tussauds Museum in Singapore. She is also the first Indian to receive this honour. In fact, Anushka’s will be the first statue in the museum that will talk.It is no secret how selective they are about finalising the personality for their unique interactive wax statue! This itself proves how Anushka Sharma, from a lanky model from Bangalore, traversing to become a great actor, producer and social activist, has taken on the form of a global power brand today.
A proud army kid and a model at heart, Anushka first sizzled the ramp for ace designer Wendell Rodricks, who is known for his talent spotting flair. But surely, even he wouldn’t have imagined the heights Anushka Sharma would attain in her just a little-over-10-years journey.
When she made her Bollywood debut with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, starring opposite none other than the Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma’s screen presence and acting chops made movie goers and makers sit up and take notice. In Band Baaja Baraat, the tall and lissom actor was more sure footed, and of course with PK, she had arrived!
With success came several high-end endorsements like Nivea, 7Up, Clear and Pantene shampoos, Google Pixel 2 mobile phones, cosmetic brand Elle !8, Colgate toothpaste, Scooty, Bru Coffee, Pepsi, Canon, Lipton Green Tea and more. She became the cynosure of all eyes, what with people and the media obsessing over her sylphlike build and sartorial tastes.
Not just satisfied with being an actress, the entrepreneur in Anushka Sharma led her to launch Clean Slate Films, a film production and distribution company. She went a step further by launching her own fashion label, Nush, a clothing line for women, in association with Suditi Industries. Never mind that the company ran into trouble when it was accused of plagiarising designs, but matters were sorted out later.
Adding a more sensational twist to her already astonishing life trajectory was her relationship with hot India cricket captain, Virat Kohli, even earning themselves a nickname, Virushka. Though after announcing that they were actually a pair, they broke their fans’ hearts by calling off their relationship for a while. But, it must have been true love that they shared, which brought them back together—only forging a stronger bond this once. After a whirlwind romance, both the winners in their respective fields, tied the knot in a wedding that was no less than a fairy tale. A new power couple had emerged in the Indian celebrity firmament with the coming together of both these achievers.
Anushka Sharma is not just a pretty face, and she proves this time and again by associating with several charities and social causes. Like, she walked the ramp to support Shabana Azmi’s Mijwan Welfare Society, an NGO that works towards empowering women. She even famously auctioned the leather jacket that she was seen wearing in Jab Tak Hai Jaan on eBay, passing on the proceeds to the redevelopment of the flood-affected states of Kashmir and Assam in 2014.
Truly a woman of substance, Anushka Sharma is definitely flying high—deservedly so!
