After the decision taken by the General Administration of Sport in China to not hold any international sporting events in the country till the year’s end, the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Asia’s only ATP Masters 1000 tournament, the China Open in Beijing, the ATP 500 event, Chengdu Open and Zhuhai Championships, and ATP 250 events, will not take place in the year 2020.
The ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, honouring the decision also stated: “Our approach throughout this pandemic has been to always follow local guidance when staging events. We respect the Chinese government’s decision to do what’s best for the country in response to the unprecedented global situation,” and announced that the ATP Tournaments will not be played in China while thanking the organizers for their commitment and cooperation. He also emphasized on how these important events create a foothold of ATP in Asia and called the Chinese fans as some of the most passionate ones in the world and their support encourages the athletes to perform better.
Meanwhile, ATP is working on a revised calendar for the final section of the 2020 season.
