On this day in 2019, England lifted their maiden ODI World Cup at the famous Lord’s beating New Zealand in a dramatic finish. Nobody ever imagined the world champions would be chosen by a boundary count!
England and New Zealand finished on the same score in the allotted quota of 50 overs which headed the teams towards Super Over. As luck would have it, the Super Over was a tie as well but England hit more boundaries which made them win the 2019 World Cup under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy.
From Black Cap bowler Trent Boult’s costly mistake of stepping into the boundary line while taking a catch to the failed overthrow by New Zealand to get England’s Ben Stokes out by a run out, the 2019 World Cup was one hell of a match to be remembered in the history of cricket!
