October is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide as a campaign to promote awareness that is already making waves. Delay in early diagnosis of breast cancer kills thousands of Indian women in a year. Hence, it is essential that necessary steps are taken to identify the ailment during the early stages itself.
Breast cancer is one of the most diagnosed type of cancer in Indian women and the disease is a threat to one in every 28 women in India.
One in every two Indian women diagnosed succumbs to this disease but however, doubling the duration of hormone therapy for women with early-stage breast cancer from five to ten years reduces the risk of recurrence and developing tumours in the other breast.
Recently several stars in Bollywood took to Instagram to show support to the cause. They wrote, “Simple actions in our daily lives can help bring us closer to a world without breast cancer – encouraging friends & family to get yearly health check-ups, schedule an annual mammogram if 40 years or older, wear a pink ribbon in support of the cause, focus on eating healthy, attend educational events or donate money to fund critical research time. It’s #TimeToEndBreastCancer. The Estée Lauder Companies in partnership with renowned photographer @rohanshrestha has created an emotional and impactful #WhiteTSeries to inspire a digital wave of awareness and fundraising – to create a Breast Cancer free world. Join us in our mission by uploading a photo of a pink-themed look with the hashtags #TimeToEndBreastCancer #BCCIndia2019 and tagging @esteelaudercompanies. For every public post/story on Instagram with the hashtags in October 2019, The Estee Lauder Companies will donate Rs. 10 on your behalf to fund breast cancer awareness initiatives, research, education, and medical support.”
