Former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar celebrates his birthday today, turning 71. Making his debut for the national team in 1971, the batting legend has played 125 Test matches and 108 ODI matches, scoring 10,122 runs and 3,092 runs respectively.
One of the finest batsmen to have ever played the game, Sunil Gavaskar is the first batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs. He is also the first batsman to score centuries in both innings of a Test thrice and the first Indian fielder to claim 100 Test catches.
Sunil Gavaskar was part of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team and has also received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan award for his contribution to Indian cricket.

On the other hand, this year’s Asia Cup, originally scheduled for September has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is a T20 competition, featuring six Asian countries who fight for the trophy. Keeping in mind about the health and safety of players as well as the staff, the decision of postponement of the Asian Cup was taken. Now, Sri Lanka will stage the next year’s edition.
