The summer sun is harmful to both our skin and hair but while we take precautions to protect our skin from the harmful effects of the Sun and the heat, we often tend to miss providing enough shield to our hair. This oversight may lead to dry, dull, rough, faded, and damaged hair.
However, there are a lot of simple ways through which you can prevent your hair from the Sun’s damage and take care of your hair during Summers easily by following these hair regimes religiously.
1.How often you should shampoo?
Do not shampoo your hair every day, as this will harm the hair and make it dry by extracting your natural hair oil. If you sweat more on the scalp and if your scalp gets greasy and sweaty easily, go for a mild shampoo.
Shampoo only on the scalp and not on the hair and as you wash off your hair, be very gentle with your hair.
While the Sun is drying out your hair, make sure you help restore moisture to your hair by using a rinse-out conditioner. Get a conditioner that suits your hair type and texture. If you are going for a swim, remember to put on a leave-in conditioner on your hair and wear a swimming cap, otherwise, the chlorine water will dry up your hair beneath the sun rays.
3.Deep conditioning treatments once a week
Hair gets dry, frizzy, and more brittle during summer and if you expose your hair to the Sun very often, then you need a deep conditioning treatment that can keep your hair hydrated, nourished and moisture locked. However. ensure you do it once a week and not every day or every alternate day. Deep conditioners contain concentrated amounts of conditioning agents; therefore, they should not be applied daily.
4.Add a serum to your everyday hair care routine
The best way to protect your hair from the Sun is by wearing a scarf. If you do not want to use a scarf, then make sure you use a leave-in serum with a UV protector. Always apply hair serum with a UV protector that will work as a sunscreen for your hair and prevent your hair from the damage caused by the Sun.
If you have recently coloured your hair or have coloured hair, you need to take extra care of them during summer. While selecting the right hair care products during summer, go for ones that are specially made for coloured hair. If you have recently coloured your hair, try to avoid going out often in the Sun, especially when in the afternoons. If you go out, then keep your hair covered to protect your hair colour from fading.
6.Avoid using mechanical tools in the summers.
Limit the use of blow dryer, iron, and curlers during summer. Also, wash your hair half an hour to an hour earlier so that it gets dry naturally before stepping out in the Sun. In summers, try to keep your hair natural and avoid using irons and curlers as this will increase the chances of hair getting dry.
If you want to style your hair using hot tools, then apply a heat protector on the hair before styling them.
Once your hair is damaged due to the harmful rays of the Sun, it will take some time for it to recover. Start the summer hair care regime today to keep it healthy and shiny even during the tough hot months. Always remember – healthy tresses are happy tresses!
