Stand-up comedians Vir Das and Rohan Joshi have alleged that their personal contact information and addresses were leaked, subjecting to abusive messages and threats. The details were shared from an anonymous Twitter account which was later suspended.
On Instagram, Rohan Joshi posted a note where he stated that he was going offline for a few days. Feeling anxious with all the calls and hate, the comedian offered an apology for hurting any religious sentiments. He also requested everyone to leave his family alone at such hard times.
Vir Das is also a target of cyber abuse, shared a note as well. He stated that his comments section on social media is a “monsoon of abusive language”. Vir added that he will not read the comments and hopes that the fans do the same but this will not stop him from posting and creating more content.
On the other hand, a female stand-up comedian was subjected to online rape threats after her year old video went viral. Shubham Mishram, the guy behind the hurling was arrested by Gujarat Police after the National Commission for Women sought immediate action.
Reacting to the threats against the female stand-up comic, a group of popular comedians like Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Srishti Dixit and Malika Dua came together and shared a video called “Women Finally Apologise For Everything”. Watch:
