Gully Boy just released a week ago but its success has been soaring sky-high already and the Gully-rap fever seems to have taken over from the young age to old. The raw and outstanding acting by the actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as well as the overall movie by Zoya Akhtar is totally commendable. But what did not escalate the public’s eye was this young lad who played the breakout street rapper MC Sher in the movie, Siddhant Chaturvedi became an overnight star and the talk of the town.
With his boyish charm and brilliant performance, Siddhant is ruling hearts and how. The 25-year-old has been going around doing interviews and talk shows and we can’t stop drooling over him. He shared how he bagged the role in the film saying, ‘I was at Inside Edge success party dancing on Mirchi Lagi Toh Mein Kya Karu’ when Zoya saw me for the first time. Then Gallan Goodiyan’ played from Dil Dhadakne Do and then I danced with her. Just immediately after that, she was like, listen! who are you? I want you to audition for this. I’m like Yeah, and that’s how I bagged the audition.’
Talking about the preparation for the audition the star said, ‘I was given the rap a day prior to the audition. I researched a bit about rap and prepped myself. I wrote about my own struggle, I was jobless for 6 years, so I wrote some lines on myself and I auditioned and I was selected. Zoya loved my audition and sent me the script and after I read the script, I was like this is it for me.’
Chaturvedi’s character is of a mentor helping Murad (Ranveer) channel his music ability, but in real it was the other way around where Singh was all the time mentoring and helping him with his acting. ‘It was ironical to be a mentor to Murad on-screen. He was my MC Sher off-screen. He mentored and advised me throughout the film about my voice and everything’, recalls the actor.
Surprisingly, Siddhant announced that he was never really into rap and was more of a Mohammad Rafi and ghazals kind of a guy, but his uncanny performance as a rapper in the movie says a whole different story, for which he prepared in just 20 days. To break some hearts here, we would like to tell you the ladies’ charmer accepted that he is already dating someone from the industry, although she is not an actress.
While we hope to see more of this coming-of-age actor, Gully boy is running successfully all over the country and the film also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in important roles.
