On Independence Day, two of India’s best cricketers, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina retired from cricket, leaving the country in tears. Thanking and appreciating their contribution towards Indian cricket, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a note to both the players.
In a lengthy and emotional message for Dhoni who retired after a decorated 16 year career, PM Modi hailed the former Indian skipper for his achievements on the cricket field and everything he has done for the sport in India and the world.
From all the important lessons taught to today’s youth by Dhoni to his trademark calm and unassuming style, Modi wrote that every Indian is eternally grateful for everything he’s done for the country. Buddies for life, on and off the field, Suresh Raina also announced his retirement from international cricket along with MS Dhoni.
On social media, Raina shared the letter of appreciation he received from PM Modi. The batsman thanked the leader for best wishes and appreciation. While tracing Raina’s journey, from the lanes of Muradnagar to finding his feet in the playgrounds of Lucknow, Modi said that Raina lived and breathed cricket.
Calling him too young and energetic to retire, Modi had words of appreciation for his inspiring batting and fielding skills that came with alertness as well as speed. From life changing injuries to Raina’s community efforts, PM Modi showered heaps of praises and wished him a successful second innings in life.
