Happy Teacher’s Day!
A special bond, inspiring us to become the best versions of ourselves by pushing our limits, is shared between every teacher and their students. A day to remember all the beautiful memories we have shared with our teachers, from laughter to punishment. Let’s be honest, it definitely brings a smile to our faces.
To honour this precious relationship, Bollywood has made movies about teachers taking the emotional and psychological ride for their students.
Let’s take a look at the movies that celebrate this bond but also inspire those who are physically challenged:
1. TAARE ZAMEEN PAR
The iconic movie, portrays the bond between an eight year-old dyslexic student and his teacher who acts more like his friend. The National Award movie follows the journey of how using unconventional teaching methods, Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) helps Ishaan Awasthi (Darshel Safary) overcome his disability.
An emotional drama that will make you teary and touch the softest spot in your heart. The music, script and acting is rock hard solid. ‘Taare Zaameen Par’ is a heart-warming and emotionally engaging movie.
2. HICHKI
An adaptation of Brad Cohen’s autobiography ‘Front of the Class’. ‘Hicki’ stars Rani Mukerji in the lead, a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome. The movie focuses on how Naina Mathur turns her syndrome into her biggest strength after facing resistance from the school and uses different techniques to teach her economically backward students.
An inspirational story which focuses on a syndrome that many people are not aware of. It is a film about acceptance in the world of intolerance. A well-intended movie that shows how a teacher can go to any extent to teach her stubborn students.
3. MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA
‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ is about Surya (played by Abhimanyu Dassani), a young man suffering from congenital insensitivity to pain and how his idol-teacher helps him learn ways to deal with his problems.
A highly entertaining movie, filled with action and comedy. It is a warm and joyful story with endearing characters and a rare experience in Indian cinema.
4. BLACK
Similar to Helen Keller’s story, the movie stars Rani Mukerji as Michelle and Amitabh Bachchan as Debraj. ‘Black’ highlights on how a stubborn teacher shapes the life of a blind, dumb and deaf girl. Though Michelle’s parents give up on her, yet Debraj helps her explore her potential by helping her graduate college.
Keep a tissues ready, while watching ‘Black’. An appreciated movie with heart-wrenching performances by the protagonists. A masterpiece that will feed your soul, showing beautiful aspects of the student-teacher bond.
5. IQBAL
The sports drama featuring Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah is about Iqbal, a deaf and mute but cricket obsessed boy. With the dream of playing for the Indian team, the movie focuses on how his coach prepares him to achieve it.
A motivational movie that tells one to not give up on your dreams no matter what happens. ‘Iqbal’ will make you believe in the formula of dare to dream with its amazing performances and subject matter. A cinematic tale on the student-teacher bond and how with each other’s support everything is achievable.
