Last year actor/director of sandalwood, Rishab Shetty had come up with a movie on a real social issue. The film, starring Anant Nag, is about a State-run school in a border district of Kasaragod, Kerala. Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai (one of the longest film titles in the history of Kannada films), touched upon alleged imposition of Malayalam language in Kannada schools which led to protests.
Rishab had got the inspiration for the film post many newspaper reports that declared the closure of schools because of poor attendance. Once the film was wrapped up the team has decided to adopt the school to save it from shutting down.
The director had said, ‘…This has reduced the strength of the entire school to just 25 students and two teachers, one of who is the principal. So, the school is on the verge of shutting down. When we heard this, my team and I decided to adopt the school. We plan on starting a pre-school there as well. It will be a model school.’
Recently he posted a series of pictures on Instagram of the same school where the team is seen tidying up the environment and painting on the walls. Making the school premises looks colourful and lively while, the students are away on their summer vacations. Looks like the students will be starting their new year of school very beautifully indeed.
