The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is celebrating their tenth year in Melbourne, Australia. It is the largest festival of its kind, celebrating the best of Indian cinema in all its forms, from Bollywood’s Hindi blockbusters to regional cinemas in various languages and films from the Indian subcontinent.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will go on from 8 to 17 August in Melbourne, Australia. The festival will screen over 60 films from all across India and the subcontinent in over 22 languages.
The festival welcomes some of the country’s most exciting filmmakers and movie celebrities, while hosting a wealth of unique and interactive live events. Presented by the State Government of Victoria, the festival is a key initiative to foster closer ties between India and Australia.
The events during the ten day long festival are: Opening and Closing Night, IFFM Awards Night, Indian Independence Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony, Bollywood Dance Competition, Master classes, Roundtable Discussions and Question & Answer sessions.

The festival provides an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their film on an international platform, to be noticed by most eminent film personalities from India and Australia.
The award-winning film festival celebrations began with an opening press conference that took place at the Central Business District, Melbourne. Several stars from Indian cinema were present, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie Shankar, Tabu, Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Sriram Raghavan, Rima Das and Zoya Akhtar.

Taking charge of the event, Mitu Bhowmick Lange, Director of the festival introduced the programs. Martin Foley, Minister for Creative Industries for the Victorian Legislative Assembly, was also present at the event.

Tamil film ‘Super Deluxe’ was nominated for three honours opposite several Bollywood biggies such as ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Badhaai Ho’ and ‘Sui Dhaaga’.
Shah Rukh Khan, the guest of honour at the festival, addressed the audience.

He also grooved with the kids when he went on stage to receive the award for ‘Excellence in Cinema’. He danced on the song ‘Apna Time Ayega’.

The actor-producer was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at La Trobe University for his Humanitarian work.

Filmmaker Karan Johar also took the stage and stated that the panel at the festival is reflective of the glorious courage and changing face of Indian cinema. The IFFM host is the popular TV actor Karan Tacker.

The list of winners at the film festival were announced at the Palaias Theatre in Melbourne.
