In a sad turn of events, Athlete Federation of India (AFI) announced the withdrawal of Hima Das’ name from 400m event of the World Championship 2019 due to a back injury.
The 19-year-old Assamese athlete had shown some record-breaking performances over the past few months, clinching five golds within a month’s span. Usually referred as Dhing Express, Hima clinched her first gold of this year earlier in July at Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland and did not stop since then.
As per earlier reports, Hima was just preparing herself for the World Championships by participating in previous competitions.
On Wednesday, the official account of AFI wrote, “Unfortunately 400m athlete #HimaDas will not compete at the @iaaforg World Championships 2019 #Doha2019 due to back injury.”
