Coolie No. 1 is a remake of the 1995 film directed by David Dhawan, which starred the legend Govinda and Karishma Kapoor in the roles of Raju and Malti. And now David Dhawan is back to direct the remake of the most entertaining film of the 90s yet again starring his son, Varun Dhawan as Raju and Sara Ali Khan as Malti. The film was announced by the filmmakers on 8 March 2019 and now it’s release date has been confirmed. The film is declared to hit the theatres on May 1, 2020. Varun Dhawan took to Instagram to share its release date. He posted an image of a red colored badge which says, No. 1 Licensed Porter along with the caption, ‘Aaj Ka Din, Agle Saal Aega Coolie No.1 – Hoga Kamaal !!! Coolie No.1 releases on May 1, 2020 #DavidDhawan @Saraalikhan95 #VashuBhagnani @pooja_ent #1YearForCoolieNo.1’.
When asked about the movie in an interview, Varun stated, ‘Why I wanted to do this film is because when I watched it, I was so entertained. I had such a good time watching it. It’s a family film. It’s one of the funniest and most entertaining films I have ever watched. It has an amazing screenplay done by brilliant actors then. We are adopting it, it’s not a remake. I just want to try and bring that kind of fun back. That’s why my father is also ready to do it. He has changed a lot of things. He has challenged himself also. He is the only one, who knows the sur for this kind of film.’
There are rumors that the film will also have the recreation of super hit songs Husn Hai Suhana and Main Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha. The first poster of Coolie No. 1 remake is slated to release on May 1, 2019.
