A programme and prayer was organised in honour of the victims and frontline warriors of COVID-19. The prayer ceremony was streamed live and joined by several supreme heads of Buddhist Sanghas from around the world. The virtual prayer event witnessed monks from various Indian religious locations who prayed for the health and goodwill of people. It was held by the Union Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).

In his virtual speech on Buddha Purnima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi projected India as a responsible nation who is fulfilling the duty to serve selflessly amid the pandemic. Making tireless efforts to supply medicines, the country is working to help the entire world too.
Modi spoke about two important Buddhist sites, Bodh Gaya in Bihar and Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, its political significance in today’s world. The address was also designed as an outreach to Buddhist nations around the world. Apart from preaching the teachings of Buddhism, Modi also tried to motivate people to keep fighting COVID-19 in India and help the needy in every way possible.
