Bollywood actor, Sonu Sood has been receiving applaud and praises for his selfless service during the COVID-19 lockdown. For his efforts and philanthropic work, he has been honoured by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award.
Sonu Sood received this prestigious award for extending a helping hand by arranging transportation and food for migrant workers. He also arranged charter flights to bring back Indian students stranded across the world. Apart from setting up a free helpline for assistance, the actor also replied to every query that came to him on social media.
Currently, Sonu Sood is providing free education and medical facilities to children as well as creating employment opportunities for the needy in the wake of the global pandemic. The 47 year-old also offered his Mumbai hotel to health workers to stay in and arranged safe shelters for Mumbai people before the Nisarga cyclone hit the city’s coast in July. Through a virtual ceremony, Sonu Sood was presented with this UN recognition. With this prestigious honour, he joins the likes of many global icons like Priyanka Chopra, Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman and Emma Watson, who have been similarly honoured by different UN bodies.
