Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar recently requested for an stringent action on making helmets mandatory for the batsmen from the International Cricket Council after the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Vijay Shankar took a nasty blow on his helmet from the throw of Kings XI Punjab’s Nicholas Pooran.
Master Blaster took to his official social media handle and questioned the safety of the players during the game time by sharing a still of the Sunrisers Hyderabad match as he wrote, “The game has become faster but is it getting safer?
Recently we witnessed an incident which could’ve been nasty.
Be it a spinner or pacer, wearing a HELMET should be MANDATORY for batsmen at professional levels.
Request @icc to take this up on priority.”

Sachin also tagged current Indian cricket head coach Ravi Shastri in one of his tweets and wrote about an old incident where thanks to the helmet, Ravi escaped a serious injury.
.@RaviShastriOfc, this also reminded me of the time when you got hit after top edging a full toss bowled by Mr. Gavaskar during an exhibition game. That could’ve been a grave injury too but thankfully wasn’t! 🙏🏻

Sachin’s take on ensuring the safety of the players again came into focus when Dhawal Kulkarni of Mumbai Indians received a powerful throw on his head, only to be saved by the helmet in his most recent match. Sachin shared the clip of the same on his Twitter handle and reiterated his words by writing, “Another example of why helmets need to be made mandatory.
Thank God my friend @dhawal_kulkarni was wearing one.”
