Anushka Arora, an Indo-British radio jockey, video jockey, anchor, actor and a journalist, made the country proud by winning the ‘Best Radio Presenter of the Year’ at Asian Media Awards 2018. This award acknowledges a radio presenter who has helped to sustain high standards over a period of time both in creativity and innovation.
The Asian Media Awards reward those who excel in the Asian and Mainstream media. Established in the year 2013, the Awards recognize the strength and depth of the media industry and aim to highlight the groundbreaking work of reporters and producers in highlighting issues like the ones affecting race relations and human rights. Attended by the professionals of the industry, The AMA 2018 took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate, supported by the world’s foremost media organizations at MediaCom HQ in central London. Picking up the best trailblazing journalists, publication, radio shows and TV channels were the representatives from respected news and media organizations from across the world.
‘I am highly obliged that how industry has awarded me with such a great honour and has rewarded me with a prestigious award,’ Anushka exclaimed, ‘I’ll make sure to not leave any stone unturned in making India proud overseas with such achievements and accomplishments and it makes me supremely joyous of how appreciative people have become of different career options!’
She was trained in hospital radio, local community radio stations and had a degree in Journalism from the University of Arts, London, but her talent got reorganization only years later when she was recognized amongst the top five ‘Best Presenter of the Year’ at the Hospital Radio Awards, 2008. Anushka was presented her Diploma in TV Presenting in TV Presenting Masterclass course at the London Academy of Media, Film and TV. Her previous TV experience includes working at the BBC News 24 in the production gallery, being a runner for Bid Up TV, being a weekly Bollywood movie review presenter for Zing and she also works very closely with the biggest Asian TV channels in the UK including Sony TV, Colors and Star Plus. She has worked at BBC Asian Network for two years, where she presented the “Drive-Time Show” Monday-Friday. She then moved back to Sunrise Radio in November 2014. Anushka can be now be heard on Sunrise Radio 963 & 972AM from 12-4pm (GMT + 1) with exclusive showbiz news, latest movie reviews, Bollywood interviews, updates on all Indian reality TV shows and new music.
She got her first break as a producer and presenter at the Club Asia 963 & 972 AM from Monday – Friday, mornings and she managed to remain a Bollywood enthusiast hosting the show Bollypoppin’. During her adventurous tenure as an RJ, she hosted many events around the London city, boosting her anchor-self. Anushka has shown her anchoring skills in many Bollywood tours and has hosted events like Adnan Sami at Wembley Arena, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at the O2 Arena, Atif Aslam’s UK Tour 2015, Arijit Singh at the O2 Indigo and Wembley Arena, Bollywood press conferences for Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express and Krrish 3, Wedding Exhibitions, fashion shows, corporate events and many Summer Melas around the UK. Not only that, Anushka hosted major tours; Asha Bhosle’s Farewell UK tour as well as the Mika Singh and Daler Mehndhi UK tour. With Bollywood being her forte she has interviewed the biggest superstars like the Bachchan’s, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, John Abraham, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Manish Paul to India’s top fashion designers like Anita Dongre, Anamika Khanna, Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra.
In January 2016, Anushka became the first ever British-Asian Radio Presenter to broadcast live from the Bigg Boss House in India on Sunrise Radio. Interviewing all the contestants live from the house, building a strong relationship with B-Town industry contestants.
The same year she got featured as a journalist opposite Shahrukh Khan in his movie Fan. She was also nominated for the fourth year running as “Best Radio Presenter of The Year” for the Asian Media Awards where Sunrise Radio picked up the Best Radio Station of The Year award. She was awarded the “Pride of India Award” for being an NRI Most Prestigious Journalist from the NRI Institute at the House of Lords, London; in addition to which she received the “Best in Media Award, 2018,” paving her ever glorious work in the field of electronic and new media.
