The Covid pandemic in a brief stint threw the entire world into chaos and it’s most significant effect was noticed on the sporting calendar around the world.
One of the most important fixtures of this year’s Football almanac, FIFA Club World Cup slated to be held in December at Doha, Qatar is rescheduled to 2021. The competition which was to take place among six regional club confederation champions and host nation’s club champion will now be played from 1 February to 11 February 2021.
Along with it, the World Football governing body FIFA also called off the Women’s U-17 World Cup and U-20 World Cup which were scheduled to take place in India and Costa Rica respectively and has granted the rights of hosting to both the nations for the 2022 edition.
The International Football Federation also stated: “FIFA would like to express its gratitude to the host member associations, as well as the authorities in Qatar, Costa Rica, Panama and India, for their commitment and the tournament preparations made so far. FIFA looks forward to continuing to work closely together with the host countries to organise successful tournaments.” and declared that in association with various organizations and host nations it will continue to monitor the situation concerning the pandemic globally.
