Fashion designer Monisha Jaising and Shweta Bachchan Nanda quite often come in India’s best-dressed list. While the two have known each other and have collaborated on various occasions to bring out designs, this time the duo has come jointly to bring out a new reasonable luxury brand titled ‘ MxS’.
The brand is said to be enthused by pop culture. As described on the website, the designs are meant for urban women who do not want to put their age into an ensemble.
Shweta and Jaising are always known for their prickly sense of fashion. Their main aim to start the luxury brand was to see people of different sizes, wear clothes and enjoy it. Monisha said the collection is not street wear. ‘It’s luxury prêt, which is stirred by street style, and sportswear. As both of them said, ‘we felt that there was a gap in the market for this category. If someone wanted to wear something special, there was no specific place they could go to, to pick up something instantly.’ Monisha loves the winged heart dress from the formal section and the Africa tunic, whereas, Shweta has a soft corner for athleisure and favours the evil eye tee, bomber jackets, track pants and sweatshirts.

We all live in a world which is highly subjugated and rules by fashion, and just picture that place being limited with few imperfect articles of clothing sized and styles, lack of styles for plus-size fashion. Fluidity in fashion is one of the main objectives that designer Monisha Jaising and Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s newest opulence prêt label MXS offers, with designs that bring some of the best options to women of all ages and sizes.
MxS caters to sizes ranging from XS to 3XL, and the collection has been planned keeping in mind one worldwide truth — every daughter borrows from her mother’s wardrobe.
The collected works includes a full variety of colours from sorbet pastels to a riot of acid colours and fabrics like bonded satin organza, metallic lame, chainmail, metallic velvet and satin georgette, featuring permanent pleating, hand-pleating techniques, sequined embroideries and more.
With a price point ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 70,000, MxS aims to provide you with statement ensembles that will last.
From short mini dresses to tea-length to floor skimming dress, the debut collection of MxS is a mixed back of practical yet supremely stylish ensembles. MxS is the one-stop solution for any occasion so from desk to dinner, beach to wedding, gym, travel, party or club wear, you find something for everyone, in all sizes.
The first collection is as preppy and playful as it is stunning. Examples: sequin rainbow striped track-pants, statement elegant sweatshirts with the word ‘Airplane Mode’ scribbled across the front in needlework, and a black leather skirt with slogans all over it in graffiti art to name just a few.
The launch of ‘MxS’ was a shining event, with many Bollywood celebrities and their star kids. The event was held at Pali Hill. Keeping the brand designs in mind, most of the Bollywood celebrities sported a casual look, still looking graceful and stylish. The celebrities that were present included the Bachchan family, Gauri Khan and Neha Dhupia, Karisma Kapoor to name a few. Apart from them, the star kids that were present at the event include Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, and Suhana Khan and others.
However, just two days after the bright launch event, the label was being accused of copying. Instagram account Diet Sabya, which regularly calls out designer imitations, brand copies and plagiarism when it comes to fashion designs, posted a photo of a sweatshirt from Shweta’s brand, which looks dramatically similar to another from a lesser-known American brand called The Laundry Room.
Ahead of the launch, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek took to social media to share photos of them in a jacket from the clothing line. And social media couldn’t help noticing the similarities in the font used on the jacket. The jacket has the words ‘Girl Power’ scribbled across it. The print, incidentally, is almost the same as that in the famous cartoon show, Powerpuff Girls.

‘When you google ‘Airplane Mode Sweatshirt’ – the first search that pops-up is a little known loungewear brand called, @tlroom. The brand retails out of @nordstromnyc, and is known for its cool girl vibe, comfy sweats and chill silhouettes. And, now @monishajaising and @shwetabachchan’s new brand – @mxsworld – has the same sweatshirt with the exact same slogan. So, who do we blame the mess on?’ the account captioned a collage of the two sweatshirts.
