The Malayalam Blockbuster ‘Jallikattu’ is the official entry from India for the Best International Feature Film Category into the Oscars 2021.
Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the renowned movie director and actor of the Malayalam Film Industry, ‘Jallikattu’ premiered at Toronto Film Festival 2019 and later hit the Indian theatre on 4 October, 2019.
A fast paced, action-packed drama, the movie was applauded to have a great technical approach in its cinematography. It is set in a small village where ahead of a grand feast, the buffoles that were to be slaughtered flee away and a group of men were put together to stop the chaos and catch the havoc creating animals.
The movie has different shades that explore toxic masculinity, patriarchal setup, underlying political play, and a desperation to best out.
Finding a place in the 93 Academy Awards, the movie got selected by a board of 14 members of the Film Federation of India where 26 films from across the nation were also nominated.
