First wrestling event post-coronavirus lockdown and Vinesh Phogat brings back a gold medal to the Indian homeland!
The star Indian wrestler pinned down 2017 world champion Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, 10-8, to grab a gold at the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial tournament in the city of Kiev.
Not an easy final against the Belarusian with both the women wrestler’s testing each other with consistent attacks in the battle in which Vinesh prevailed. The 53kg match opened with Vinesh Phogat leading but a brilliant move from world number seven wrestler, changed the game but the 26 year-old Indian wrestler came stronger with a four point to take a lead and win the title.
Being the only Indian women wrestler to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Vinesh Phogat tweeted stating that she’s happy to be back on the mat and into competitive mode after winning the gold. Pumped for upcoming tournament, here’s the tweet:
