Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial International Boxing Tournament 2019 held in Kaspiysk, Russia features over 200 boxers hailing from 21 countries. In the 21 edition of the tournament Asian Championships gold medalist Pooja Rani (75 kg) and World Championships bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg), along with Neeraj (57 kg) and Jony (60kg), entered the semi-finals on Wednesday.

While taking down Russia’s Anastasiya Sigaeva by 5-0, Lovlina was seen in one of her best form. Now the player will be against Belarus’ Alina Veber for a place in the final. Meanwhile, Pooja Rani bounced back from a loss at the India Open held in May with a 4-1 victory over Russia’s Laura Mamedkulova to bag another medal for India. Neeraj recorded a 4-1 win over Russian Sayana Sagataeva, while Jony beat Belarusian Anastasiya Obushenkova 5-0.
Along with it, Indian Women’s Football Team started its COTIF Cup Campaign 2019 on Thursday. India in its first match of the tournament held in Valencia, Spain lost against the Spanish Villarreal CF. After the first half of the match score was 0-1, but the save of goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan during the free kick of Bea Prades kept the Indian team in the game. Unfortunately, in the final eight minutes, Nazaret Padron scored another goal bringing the difference of 2-0.
