The actor’s official name is Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair, he is fondly called as Laletten by his fans. He was born on May 21, 1960, in Elanthoor village, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala.

Mohanlal is the first actor to receive the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India.
