Every pet parent knows the importance of a treat in their pet’s life. Treats play a huge role in building as well as strengthening the bond between you and your pet. Most importantly, it is an invaluable training tool. Feeding your pet a treat soon after their training sessions can show them your appreciation. It will motivate them to improve their behaviour and enjoy their training sessions.
One might face some inconvenience carrying pet treats during their outdoor training sessions. Therefore, to reduce this inconvenience, you must opt for a pet snack bag to carry the treat. These bags are easily available in the market. However, if you are looking for something customized, you can DIY a pet snack bag. You need to have all the materials handy and basic sewing knowledge for this project.
Here’s all you need:-
· Fabric (Outer fabric)
· Inner lining (Inner fabric)
· Thread
· Scissors
· Sewing machine or needles
· Fastener (Snaps or Velcro)
· Pins
· Ruler or pattern
· Clips
· Webbing or ribbons
The bag we’re about to DIY is simply a pocket with a flap to close it. For reference, it would be similar to a clutch purse. The bag you prepare can be washed and reused for your next training sessions.
Ensure to wash the fabric before you start the sewing process.
Method:
Take cardboard or paper (use anything available to you) and cut two pieces of 5 inches by 7 ½ inches. Take another piece of paper and again cut two pieces of 5 inches by 4 ½ inches. Use the 5 x 7 ½ inches measurement to cut one piece of the outer fabric and another piece of the inner fabric. Now, use the 5 x 4 ½ inches measurement to cut a piece of the outer and another piece of the inner fabric.
Attach the magnetic snaps before moving on to the sewing part. First, attach one part of the snap to the inner fabric’s large piece. The other part of the snap will be attached to the smaller piece of the outer fabric.
Line up the snaps and sew them onto the fabric. After attaching the snaps, fold the flaps to ensure that the snaps are placed in the right spot. If you press the snaps firmly on the fabric, it will make a small impression. It will allow you to mark the fabric and cut small holes using scissors to insert the snaps.
Next, pin the corresponding fabrics together i.e. the outer fabric pinned with the inner fabric. Ensure the snaps behind part (also known as the working part) are in the middle of the two fabrics. Pinning it on the edges will make it easier for you to sew.
Remember to leave an opening so that you can turn the fabric, on the right side out. The stitched side will be the inner side of the bag. Once you ensure that the fabric is pinned properly and you have an opening to flip over the bag, you may begin sewing it. Your pouch is now ready.
You have two options, either to attach a belt or a hook onto the pouch. You can pick a readymade belt from Amazon or any other retail shop. All you have to do is attach it to the pouch. Similarly, the hooks also have to be attached to the pouch. They are easily available in the market in various shapes and sizes. You can pick any hook suitable for your pouch.
Your bag is now ready to use. Flaunt it on your next outdoor training session!
