Around 20 film festivals from around the world have joined hands with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and YouTube to stream movies for free on the online video sharing platform. This decision was made after the coronavirus pandemic forced movies and annual film festivals at different cities around the world to be cancelled.
The ten day digital festival, ‘We Are One: A Global Film Festival’ begins on 29 May. It will bring together global artists, storytellers and curators to provide relief and entertainment to people all over the world for free. The festival will feature content curated by the Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Mumbai, New York and Venice film festivals, among others.
‘We Are One: A Global Film Festival’ will showcase films, documentaries, music, conversations and comedy on YouTube without any cost. This will also give spotlight to extraordinary films and talent, allowing audiences to experience the nuances of storytelling and the artistic personalities of each festival.
While the digital festival will stream for free on YouTube, viewers will be asked to donate to the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Not only WHO but local organizations will also benefit and provide help in relief efforts for those affected by COVID-19.
A small step by film enthusiasts for curbing coronavirus!
