Monday, May 1, 2023. Michael Kors is pleased to announce that the following guests wore custom Michael Kors Collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit and opening of “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” on Monday, May 1, 2023, in New York City.
Emily Blunt wore a custom Michael Kors Collection white French lace blouse, sequined flower brooch and black oversized organza bow with hand-sequined trousers and a matching duchesse satin overskirt with hand-embroidered, scattered sequins. Artisans spent over 4,250 hours crafting the actress’ trousers and overskirt, hand-stitching close to 350,000 recycled sequins to create the look. The flower appliqué was created by embossing individual, hand-embroidered sequin petals fused to a silk base.
Kerry Washington wore a custom Michael Kors Collection black hand-beaded guipure lace-and-tulle rumba skirt with a matching bandeau and oversized crepe blazer. Requiring almost 1,000 hours to hand-embroider, the skirt and bandeau feature over 135,000 recycled sequins in three different sizes, stitched to create a scattered effect across the lace and tulle.
Lea Michele wore a custom Michael Kors Collection silver tulle cutout gown with hand-beaded mirror sequins, dégradé fringe and matching bow. Requiring over 1,440 hours to hand-embroider, the gown is adorned with 11,700 mirrored sequins and 10,100 individually stitched crystals scattered across the base. The glittering fringe consists of different sized strands of sequins down the arms and length of the gown that create a dégradé effect.
Nnamdi Asomugha wore a custom Michael Kors Mens black wool suit with a silk cummerbund and matching bow tie.
Vanessa Hudgens wore a custom Michael Kors Collection black-and-white chiffon jersey draped gown with a leg slit, contrasting train and black hand-embroidered sequin flowers. Requiring 24 hours of handwork each, the flower appliqués were created by embossing individual, hand-embroidered sequin petals that were fused to a silk base for life-like volume.
Ashley Park wore a custom Michael Kors Collection black hand-embroidered sequin tulle gown with an oversized motorcycle vest. Requiring over 4,500 hours to hand-embroider, the cutout gown features over one million recycled micro-sequins individually stitched in a linear pattern to create a fishnet effect.
Kaitlyn Dever wore a custom Michael Kors Collection crimson hand-embroidered sequin guipure lace cutout goddess gown with an organza flower. Artisans spent more than 2,500 hours hand-embroidering the gown, stitching sequins of seven different shapes and sizes atop the lace.
