Deepshikha Gupta of Melorra tells you how to get your jewellery right this Dusherra & Diwali and gives you the lowdown on the trends and styles that will make you a show stopper!
For the woman of today, minimal jewellery that creates an impact is the new fashion statement. Women are more tuned into fashion and changing trends these days, both in the form of attire and accessories. Gone are the days when only traditional or chunky jewellery ruled the wardrobe! We look at some looks you can go for this festive season.
Focus on layering to create an impact. You could stack up on bracelets or create a stylish ensemble of light necklets and fashionable chains, mixing gemstone studded long chains or 18kt yellow gold chain with a sleek diamond necklet. The idea is to create your own style statement through a few conversation starter pieces and not adorn yourself from head to toe. Opt for 18-Karat gold for its wide range of textures and finishes available in this category. An example is Melorra’s “Disco Sequin” collection featuring “Sequined gold surfaces”. The keywords here are vibrancy and volume. It is important to add just the right amount of bling without going over the top.
With international trends making their way into the modern woman’s wardrobe, one can see a lot of experimentation with the fringe and pleated look. Many festive attires such as the full-length gowns have been westernized, tailored and re-imagined to these international trends by Indian designers as well. Melorra’s collections have interpreted both fringe and pleats through diamonds and gold jewellery. Get creative and try opting for a fine finger ring with a nice bracelet or a pair of earrings, for the Diwali card party, for instance. It is better to avoid wearing a whole set of jewellery, which is the conventional norm.
This is also the season to experiment with some new and unique jewellery categories such as necklets and lightweight necklaces. Long sleek earrings and cocktail rings, multi-layered bracelets and edgy 18kt bangles are key must-haves. Melorra has developed multi-hued floral enamel jewellery in the “Flower Bouquet” collection, that’s vibrant, emulating the festive season in spirit, which can be very stylishly paired with light Sequin necklaces from “Disco Sequin”.
Denim and metallics are seen together as well on the runways, inspiring our Denim range featuring gold jewellery studded with Iolites and Blue Topaz, a very unconventional colour for the right fashion statement this season.
