The Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy finally has a title, Kabir Singh. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, the film poster went on floors just a few days ago. The film is directed by Sandeep Vanga, who also directed the Telugu original starring Vijay Deverakonda.
Arjun Reddy is a love story and it revolves around an MBBS student who faces a harsh time in his career as he lost his love.
The 2017 Telugu hit which starred Vijay Deverakonda in the ostensible role, is now being remade into Hindi. There have been reports doing the rounds that Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Arjun Kapoor have been approached to play the hero in the Hindi version of the movie and finally, Shahid Kapoor bagged the role.
But here are a few things we hope the film doesn’t do these things:
There have been quite a few films in the past that have been adapted in Hindi and these movies and their makers couldn’t care less about retaining the magic and genuineness of the original.
In no particular order; OK Jaanu (OK Kanmani), Ekk Deewana Tha (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa), Ghajini (Ghajini), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (Manichitrathazhu) and Force (Kaakha Kaakha).
- The star cast of the movie. The main leads are the mains. Choosing the best out of many is the task. And we hope to see genuine star cast.
- The songs are another curb. The lyrics to melody go all wrong making a remake. So we don’t want to mess up music, please! We can welcome new songs but a big time no to already used songs in the worst manner.
- The direction, the big part which churns out the beauty in the film. A perfect sum up of any remake needs characters going inside the skin of the roles. So yeah audience like us would love to see good course movie apart from a khichdi.
- Acting counts in a lot, the same emotions, and feelings lacks a lot when a reboot happen so we don’t want unnecessary time waste watching silly melodramas.
While it is not possible to go into the details of each and every remake here, it is safe to say that there are numerous instances of distraction on behalf of the team of artists associated with the various projects. Sometimes with the narrative, at other times, with the casting, or with the score. And this is why there are certain reservations that one cannot help but have about remakes of good movies.
Reddy is brutal, depressed, in love, and at times, a complete beast. And all these traits of the blemished character were delivered with the crispiness of an ironed cotton shirt on screen by Deverakonda. But will the Kapoor lad of the Hindi film industry be able to deliver all that and a little more (since it is a remake) to the big screen?
Here we wish all the very best to the entire team of Kabir Singh.
