In an effort to protect Twitter users from spam or abusive Direct Messages (DMs), Twitter is debuting an anti-abuse filter, one month and a half after the first testing of the feature.
We tested, and turns out filters help you cut through the noise to find gems. Who knew. So we’re rolling out this filter to everyone on iOS, Android, and web!

With the filter, DMs from people that users do not follow end up in the Additional Messages inbox. Messages that have offensive content will also be hidden first, giving users the choice to delete them without reading.
The DM filter can help to block out abusive messages from strangers on the internet that can be harmful to user’s mental health. The filter adds a new view to the Additional Messages inbox, where DMs from people you don’t follow go. The filter will be available on Twitter’s iOS, Android and Web apps.
